Druid And Mage Stat Priorities

By -

Everyone enjoying 5.2? I hope so!

Now, I’ve been pondering these stat priority posts, and I realize that I am repeating myself on a key issue quite a bit, so why don’t we just get it out of the way right now. I won’t feel the need to mention the importance of it after this, so I’ll quit beating the dead horse (at least so much:)

You need to be hit capped/expertise capped in the appropriate hit stat for your class. If you are a melee, you need to be melee hit capped. If you are a magic user, you need to be spell hit capped. If you are a hunter, you need to be range hit capped. Being hit capped removes the chance that your attack will miss. Also, most melee classes need to be capped 7.5% in hit and 7.5% in expertise. Also, don’t forget: Hybrid classes that have talents that turn spirit into hit! My shadow priest is so over hit capped (because I don’t typically DPS) that if I miss, I’m pretty sure that means I broke WoW somehow.

So, I will not mention hit/expertise capping again, until I remind you that you need to be hit capped at the beginning of Friday’s post.

Let’s get down to the nitty gritty, shall we?

Druids:

Feral:

Agility -> Expertise (7.5%) & Melee Hit (7.5%) -> Mastery -> Crit -> Haste

Agility increases damage dealt. Mastery: Razor Claws increases damage dealt by bleed abilities. Crit increases the chance your attacks will hit crtically and haste increases attack speed and your Energy regeneration.

Balance:
Intellect -> 15% Spell Hit -> Haste -> Crit -> Mastery
Intellect increases your damage dealt.

Haste is actually a little complicated. Haste has two “breakpoints” that should be stacked to. The first breakpoint gives you 3 extra ticks on your Moonfire and Sunfire dot, and the number for that breakpoint is 5,273 Haste Rating. The second breakpoint gives you 4 extra ticks, and is 10,289 Haste Rating.

Crit increases the chance your spells will critically hit. Critical hits with Wrath, Starfire, and Starsurge cause Moonfire and Sunfire to last longer. Mastery: Total Eclipse increases the damage bonus of your Eclipse states.

Guardian:
Stamina -> Agility -> Crit -> Melee Hit (7.5%) & Expertise (7.5%) -> Mastery -> Dodge -> Haste
Stamina increases your health. Agility increases your Attack Power, Dodge, and Crit Chance, all of which help with threat and survivability. Mastery: Nature’s Guardian increases your total armor. Dodge, of course, helps you dodge incoming attacks. Haste increases attack speed, and each damaging auto attack generates 6 rage, so more attacks help your rage regeneration.

Restoration:
Spirit -> Intellect -> Haste -> Mastery -> Crit

Spirit increases your mana regen. Haste reduces global cooldowns and gives you extra ticks on your Heals Over Time. There is, again, the Haste Breakpoints, the first of which is 3043 Haste Rating. Tranquility, Rejuvenation, and Wild Growth will get off an extra tick while Lifebloom gets two extra ticks. The second breakpoint, which is at  6652 Haste Rating, and will give you extra ticks on Lifeblood, Regrowth, and Wild Growth.

Mage:

Arcane:
Intellect > Spell Hit (15%) > Haste > Mastery > Crit

Intellect increases damage dealt and a slight increase in crit chance. Haste decreases spell cast time and increases Damage Over Time ticking speeds. Mastery: increases all spell damage done based on the amount of Mana available, being most effective when closest to 100% Mana. Crit increases the chance your spell will hit the target for critical damage.

Frost:
Intellect -> Spell Hit (15%) -> Haste -> Mastery & Crit (23%)

As with the Arcane Mage, Intellect increases damage dealt and a slight increase in crit chance. Mastery: Frostburn increases damage against Frozen targets and increases the damage done by you Water Elemental. Crit, of course, increases your chances to critically hit your target. With that, Shatter can increase the Frost Mage’s crit on frozen targets, bringing the Frost Mage to close to 100% crit. The buff Arcane Brilliance/Dalaran Brilliance brings the required crit rating from 28% to 23%.

Fire:

Intellect -> Spell Hit (15%) -> Crit -> Haste -> Mastery

Intellect increases damage dealt and a slight increase in crit chance. Crit is important because the higher your crit, the more procs cane come from your Pyroblast! Mastery: Ignite adds the Ignite buff to some of your fire spells.

Tune in Friday when I discuss Priest and Rogue stat priority!
