‘Veronica Mars’ Film Kickstarter Reaches Goal, Sets Record

By -

Rob Thomas and Kristen Bell, creator and star of hit TV show Veronica Mars, recently took to Kickstarter, imploring fans to donate toward a new VM film. Fans have been pining for a Veronica Mars film for years, and this Kickstarter is proof that fan demand did not let up for a second.

The Kickstarter effort reached its $2 million goal in less than 12 hours, breaking fundraising records. As of this posting, the Kickstarter page has raised over $3 million, with 29 days left to donate.

With the fundraising requirement met, the film is set to go into production and will be the first commercial, feature-length film to be funded by a Kickstarter campaign. Warner Bros. still owns the rights to the Veronica Mars franchise and will be handling distribution and marketing.

Hopefully the success of this campaign will set a trend for other highly demanded projects to receive funding and finally get made. (Party Down, anyone?) Good on you, Veronica Mars fans.
